1st University Business Idea and Development Awards – ABIA 2010

To sustain the consistent winnings of URS students in national product development and presentation competitions which are yearly organized by Department of Trade and Industry and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PCCI), the University thru the College of Business and Commerce initiated the first product development and presentation competition in the University following the categories and format of PCCI-sponsored national business proposal student contest.

This University BIDA-ABIA was made more successful and prestigious with the presence of the experts relative to the different categories who served as members of the Board of Judges.For the Food Category, the Chair of the Board of Judges was Mercedes A. Parreño (DTI-Rizal Provincial Director and the members were Victoria Natawan (OIC, Rizal Provincial Office DILG), Reynaldo Bonita (Provincial Agriculturist, Province of Rizal), Pelagia Alano (Center Administrator, TESDA) and Andrei Vocalan (Proprietor, Balaw-Balaw Restaurant). For the Non-Food Category, the Chair of the Board of Judges was Paulo Siasoco (President, PCCI Rizal), Edmundo Lamasan (President, Rotary Club, Binangonan, Rizal), Estela Nuique (President, REMAI), Joedy Liza Cruel (Owner, Chamonde Corporation) and Alexander Ablaza (DOST Provincial Director). For the Service Category, the Chair of the Board of Judges was Col. Alejandro Teves-Escano (President, Meralco Foundation Inc.), Lito Naidas (President, Resort Owners Association of Rizal) and Deogenes Montibon (Branch Manager, LBP Binangonan)

Winners of the said competitions were awarded with generous cash prizes and will represent the University in the national level and will get a chance to showcase their product in Business Incubation center for possible private funding and mass commercial production. The winners are the following:

Food Category

1st Place – Ginger Jelly Stick Production (URSB)

2nd Place – Utilization of Jackfruit Silk as Meat Extender for Hamburger Patty (URSM)

3rd Place – Chili Cookies (URSAC)

Non-Food Category

1st Place – Multi-powered Universal Cellphone Charger (URSM)

2nd Place – Tree-free Texturized Paper

3rd Place – Utilization of Used paper, Coco Coir and Saluyot Micilage for paper Products Production

Service Category

1st Place – Home-E-ducation: A Business Plan for Computer Literacy Program (URS Taytay)

2nd Place – Establishment of Specially-Able Institution in Rizal (URSB)

With regard to linkages, the College of Business and Accountancy has continuously maintained a strong partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry – Rizal and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The College partnership with DTI-Rizal has made possible its active participation in this year’s Regional OTOP Congress hosted by the Province of Rizal, held at the Ynares Center on March 2, 2010. With PCCI, the University through the BICIDYE of the College, was assigned to chair this year’s Business Idea Development Award, a national competition sponsored by PCCI to develop the entrepreneurial spirit of the youth.
