Emerging as Regional Literacy Program Champion

The University of Rizal System won the Regional Search for National Literacy Awards for 2010. Dr. Paraluman R. Giron, Department of Education,Region IV-A Director announced in her Memorandum No. 15 that the Most Outstanding Literacy Program for 2010 in
Region IV-A is “ Literacy Program: The URS Experience”.
The winning entry is composed of several literacy projects led by faculty project leaders such as (1) Heart Start Literacy project by Dr. Marilou C. Pantaleon; (2) Community Literacy Advocacy Program (CLAP) by Dr. Emma E. Linga and Dr. Marites M. Rio; (3) Sikap Kabuhayan by Prof. Rizalina Fernandez and Prof. Edgardo Y. Celestial; (4) Mekaniko Ako by Dr. Paciano P. San Andres and Prof. Domingo G. Bermas Jr. ; (5) Combat LYNO by Prof. Marivic C. Reyes; (6) Season Long Organic Vegetable Production by Dr. Eulenia V. Solano, Engr. Amabel Cruz and Engr. Rosalinda G. Brasos; (7) Adult Literacy and Livelihood for the Dumagats and Remontados of Rizal by Prof. Cecille Rivera and Prof.Esperanza V. Gran; (8) Literacy and Socialization with the Indigenous Peoples of San Ysiro, Antipolo City by Prof. Edward Andrecio and (9) Tutoring Special Children and Youth (TUSCY) by Dr. Valentina R. Catmunan.

Recognition and awarding ceremonies were held on the second week of September 2010, coinciding with the International Literacy Celebration and Alternative Learning System Division Third Quarterly Conference in Tagaytay City.
