URS President's Report

International Seminars and Trainings

· An Executive Management Program sponsored by CHED from March 22 to April 1, 2010 was attended by Dr. Allan E. Conde and Dean Rachel Gabuya in Singapore. Similarly, last March 15– April 23, 2010, Prof. Diana Nito was sponsored by CHED to a training in Industrial Electronics. In addition, a Mechatronics training was undergone by Engr. Ferdinand M. Fernando and Prof. Rolando V. Capistrano, of URS Morong, last April 5 to May 27 in Nanyang Polytechnic International in Singapore. A similar training was attended by 3 engineering faculty and 3 industrial technology faculty from October to November 2010. The training was sponsored by Temasek Foundation, Nanyang Polytechnic International and CHED.

· Last April 8 to 11, 2010, Dr. Marilou C. Pantaleon of URS Angono attended the International Conference & Planning with Asian Women Network in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was sponsored by Education International.

· Mrs. Asuncion K. Francisco of URS Morong attended a seminar on Strategic Project Management on Planning, Budgeting, Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation at The Federal Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last April 12 to 16. The seminar was sponsored by TOPPS.

2010 National and Regional Conferences Attended by Faculty and Staff

For national and regional conferences, below are some of the notable conferences at the national and regional level attended by the faculty and staff during the 2nd quarter of the year:

· Prof. Camilo V. Marquez of URS Tanay attended the National Trainors' Course on Pig Husbandry in Lipa, Batangas last April 5 to 30. It was sponsored by ATI - International Training Center on Pig Husbandry.

· The 20th National Convention: PHILARM @ 20: Advancing Research Management for S & T Productivity & Sustainable Development sponsored by Philippine Association of Research Managers, Inc.(PHILARM) and CHED, held on April 6 to 9 in Aklan State University, Banga, Aklan was attended by Mrs. Mary Jean M. Paz ,Mr. Roberto P. Gerones and Dr. Florie B. Gapido.

· Held in Dusit Hotel Makati last April 7 to 8, the National Climate Change Forum sponsored by Manila Economic & Cultural Office-Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and the Department of Science and Technology was attended by Dr. Reneecilia B. Paz De Leon and Dr. Namerod F. Mateo. The forum hopes to strengthen partnership in addressing climate change through Science and Technology cooperation.

· The 32nd Annual National Physics Seminar - Workshop: Physics and Climate Change held on April 7 to 10, 2010 in Xavier University, Cagayan De Oro City was sponsored by the Philippine Physics Society. It was attended by Prof. Aida M. Odi and Prof. Nenita L. Dela Cruz of URS Morong Campus

· Mrs. Josephine B. Jamero of URS Angono attended the 45th Annual BIOTA National Convention: Biology & the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development held in Palawan State University, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan last April 8 to 10. It was sponsored by the Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines and the Commission of Higher Education.
